The Bermuda 100 Challenge, aimed at creating a digital atlas of Bermuda’s historic shipwrecks and marine habitats, has been awarded 1st Place in the Innovation of the Year - Local Market Focus category of the annual TechAwards.
Presented by the Department of ICT Policy and Innovation, the TechAwards was created to publicly recogonize information technology achievements in Bermuda.
The Bermuda 100 Challenge uses advanced technology and tools to document, share and explore the reefs surrounding Bermuda. Managed by Dr Philippe Rouja of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the University of California San Diego’s QUALLCOM Institute and Look Bermuda, the Bermuda 100 Challenge brings the power of student-driven engineering to the study and conservation of Bermuda’s underwater ecosystems. The aim is to ‘document 100 or more historic shipwrecks and distinct natural habitats around Bermuda, in order to enhance conservation efforts and open the sites to both real and ‘virtual’ tourism.’ (Bermuda 100 website).
