The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is inviting members of the public to join them at two upcoming town hall meetings to discuss Progress on Improving the Care and Management of Dogs:
· Tuesday 10th October 2017, 6pm, at the Anglican Cathedral Hall.
· Wednesday 11th October 2017, 6pm, at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.
There is a need to develop a system of dog management that is practical, enforceable and provides a robust regulatory framework for dogs. Consultation with stakeholder groups has resulted in the creation of proposals to be shared and discussed with the public before moving forward; they fall into three categories:
1. Improving the general care of dogs which will reduce animal abuse and neglect;
2. Creating a better regulatory framework that will protect the public and the wellbeing of dogs by promoting more responsible ownership of dogs;
3. Developing more efficient enforcement tools to ensure compliance by dog owners, while reducing the burden on the court system and the public purse.
The goal is to develop a management system for dogs that works for our island.
