Eastern Blue Cut is listed as a protected area in the Fisheries (Protected Areas) Order 1990. It has a mooring buoy indicating the radius (in metres) of the protected area, which is 600m at this site. Line fishing, trapping, spear fishing and lobster diving are prohibited within that area.

The installation of moorings at popular dive sites like Eastern Blue Cut, help to significantly reduce anchor damage.

Spotted Eagle Rays, often referred to locally at 'Whip Morays', are native to Bermuda and appear to be resident year round.

The local population is believed to be relatively small, putting Bermuda's Spotted Eagle Rays at risk from exploitation. Therefore, in 2010 the Spotted Eagle Ray was listed under the Bermuda Protected Species Act 2003, as a Level 1 protected species.

Anyone convicted of catching and/or killing an Eagle Ray will be fined $25,000 or imprisoned for 2 years.
